Wheeeeek!

It might be obvious that this isn't dog related.

I took my three g-pigs to the vet today for their annual. Zeek, my $1K piggie, has a pea-sized lump so I figured what the heck - get him checked out. Well, Dr. Jackie Warner (who previously SAVED Zeek's short little piggie life) aspirated the lump and said keep and eye on it but it appears to be just an inflamed hair follicle issue. Yippee!

Now the bad news, ALL of my pigs are over weight! I thought Zeek and Izzy were in good shape, that I just had one chunky-monkey, Alley. Nope. Dr. Warner suggested getting rid of the pigs' pellets since they eat a well balanced diet of timothy hay and veggies. Poor Alley - she's going to be VERY disappointed!!

Poor piggy pellets (I'm sorry, I just had to share the alliteration) But, poor piggies--they can't even have their pellets? Can you at least give them a little bit--just as a snack or special treat? (I know, I know--I'm a food nazi about the weasles, but yet I'm wanting you to overfeed your porky piggies) -sorry, still stuck in the alliteration...hahahaha-

I'm glad the bump was nothing serious.

Me too! I can't imagine if Zeek became the $2K piggie....we'd be bankrupt!

The pellets as a super special treat is a great idea.

What, exactly, might I ask, does a g-pig have to do to warrent a 'super special treat'? I mean they don't exactly jump through hoops to earn rewards, do they?

Wouldn't that be cool?? Agility piggies!! :-)

But seriously, Can piggies learn tricks? Something simple perhaps? I'm not sure if the Nothing in Life is Free works for piggies... Maybe a couple pellets once a day to make them feel like they are doing something special?? How about "eat your poop" Good job! Here's a pellet...

LOL

Well considering Karen Pryor was able to teach a goldfish, who mind you has a 3 second MEMORY (not attention span, but memory), to swim through a hoop, with C/T, yeah I would think you could teach a g-pig something....

Hmmmm....this thought has got me very interested. Alley is the biggest food whore; I'll have to try and teach her a piggie trick.

Hmmmm.... lets think of good piggy tricks...

How about to follow a target stick? Or better yet, touch Ike's target plate! (Or sit on it and COVER it, so Ike can't get it! hehehe, no we can't be that mean to Ike!)

Jules said...

It would probably make Ike more crazy about his target plate, which wouldn't be a bad thing. (He loves those piggies!) Having them follow a target stick could be really cute though.

I was thinking if you have them follow a target stick, you could start to teach them weave poles, or jumps or ramps etc.

Making weave poles for pigs would be much cheaper than dogs! And I could practice my timing. Great idea, ladies!

AND it might help them to lose some weight which would make my vet very happy.
