2 x 2

So, I finally watched the entire 2 x 2 dvd. It was not long, I just needed to put aside time. Even John got sucked into it for a bit! It was enthralling from my perspective!

What I would like to know is if it truly takes as little time (with consistent training and handling) as it seems? This would be a super method for Bug if it does, because we could avoid the repetition and strain on his iliopsoas. I plan on asking Kathleen tonight since I know she trained her young dog Squeeze with it so she could help her students.

Anyone out there train 2 x 2 from the beginning? I am not really as interested in re-training experiences only because Bug's poles aren't finished so we wouldn't be re-training. Thanks!

My agility instructor trained her Aussie to weave using 2x2s and she chronicled her training on her blog - www.jivinaussies.blogspot.com. Go all the way back to the beginning of her blog - the oldest posts - and you can see how she did it. She LOVES 2x2s for training weaves.

Weave-A-Matic all the way over here... but good luck to you, 2x2 seems interesting. Like you, I just haven't had the patience to learn it!

It took me longer than 2 weeks to teach Strata, but most of that was due to snow, injuries for both of us, and NOT having the 2x2 DVD, just the workbook. Had these factors not been involved, I think we probably would have sorted it out within a month to six weeks.

If you want to borrow my set of 2x2s for a little while, you're more than welcome to.

For the short dogs - like Cardis - Weave-A-Matics can be harder. Being so low, they don't see the change in angles as much as a big dog. I started training my first Cardi on those and got to where the poles were about 2" from fully upright and couldn't get him to go any further. We switched to channels then and I had him weaving in a couple weeks.

Yes, 2 x 2 was that quick for Syd. She was not weaving one week at class, and the next week, she was weaving... Good luck!

I think it sounds like it will be easier on Bug's iliopsoas, so...

@ Cat - I might take you up on that!

@ Sam - I actually like the cage method, but am worried about Bug's iliopsoas. I have heard so many stories about dogs that either never got the weaves straight up w/the WAM mthod or never got the channels together that final half-inch. Of course, I have heard success stories too; like yours and Marge's.

@ Sarah - I was hoping you would see this post - I remembered you commenting that you had used 2x2.

Thanks everyone!
