x-pens! a new trend in home decor

My bed is now surrounded by x-pens. The corgi loves to use his stairs to get up on the bed, but not so much to get off the bed. He refuses to understand that hopping off the bed is the really dangerous part.

Compression of the spine and all...

We have purchased a new bed that is lower, but we are waiting to set it up until we are in the new home.

Last night we had a discussion. I told him his options: X-pens around the bed forcing him to use the stairs and only the stairs; or all-crate-all-the-time when in the bedroom.

Corgi and husband both cannot bear the thought of lost corgi-in-bed privileges so we are trying the x-pens.

The Schnauz HATES it. Of course, he hates change so that makes sense.

Even though the Boo agrees x-pens are a better option than a crate he finds them very annoying. He feels they severely inhibit quick exits from the bed for exciting events, like when John decides to have a late night snack.

LOL I have to laugh. My mother HATED when I set up x-pens in her house to keep the corgi out of certain rooms where the doors were not guaranteed to close and latch tightly. Then again she didn't like the metal crates everywhere either!

I totally understand your reasoning here! Our master bedroom bed is one of those extra-high colonial styles. The boys have been trained they are NOT allowed to hop off, but there are occasions like the doorbell ringing, or a dog barking outside close by that will send Jimmy flying. I cringe everytime it happens! Also, we have a low deck, only two steps down, but Jimmy needs more excitement and launches himself into a flying superman pose to get off the deck in a hurry. It's adorable but also cringe inducing. And to think, I used to play endless frisbee with my first Cardi, leaping up to get the disc, before I knew better about their backs.

I don't know - wire cages around the bed? Sounds a little kinky to me :)

LOL, I had xpens around the bed for MONTHS when Breeze was healing, and for a few months when we first got Cricket. It was funny, and some days felt like sleeping in a crib...the things we do for our dogs, but it worked!!! We have one of those super high beds too...

We have a ramp that I built for the chihuahuas that is off the end of the bed. Funny, its seems like everyone likes to run down the ramp getting off the bed, but they still jump up onto the bed. Diana

I use the ramp myself sometimes, like a slide.

I say, do what you gotta do to keep your dog in the bed!
